That's Where the Wind Blows: A Fact Check on the Energy Transition
Especially when it comes to wind energy, there is a lot of misinformation, rumors, and falsehoods circulating both online and in real life, which unsettle many people. This can be detrimental to the acceptance of wind energy and, in extreme cases, even lead to the construction of a wind farm being halted due to protests by citizens.
Wind energy is one of the cornerstones of Germany’s energy transition and has become an indispensable part of it. However, people’s concerns and uncertainties must, of course, be taken seriously. As the WindRat, we believe that providing objective information and communicating facts clearly and on an equal footing is essential to breaking down prejudices and allaying fears. Only in this way can affected citizens form their own well-informed opinions.
WindKanal (The Wind Channel)– now on YouTube and Instagram
To that end, we have completely revamped both WindRat’s YouTube channel and Instagram account. Under the handle @derwindkanal, we aim to reach everyone on these two platforms who is already affected by wind energy—or will be in the future—as well as those who are simply interested in the topic and want to learn more.
In the series “Daher weht der Wind” (“Where the Wind Blows”), Fenya Kirst and Peter Keller from the WindRat team discuss everything that concerns or interests local residents regarding wind energy: costs, environmental protection, impacts on communities, and common misconceptions.
