Campaign “Thuringia: Federal State No. 1” (state election 2024)

Thuringia: The “Bundesland Nr. 1” initiative shows why wind energy is good for the region and where Thuringia is already leading the way.

In 2024, the state energy agency Landesenergieagentur ThEGA, Thuringian companies and WindRat launched a statewide campaign to promote the expansion of wind energy in the Free State of Thuringia.

The initiative in Thuringia, “Bundesland Nummer 1” (Federal State Number 1), shows on its Website, why the expansion of wind energy is good for Thuringia and its companies, and where the federal state already occupies leading positions and intends to expand.

The campaign launched with the slogan: “We already know how to do literature. Now let’s become pioneers in wind energy together.”

The whole world knows Thuringia for Goethe and Schiller. But the federal state has much more to offer: Wartburg Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, culinary diversity, and picturesque landscapes. There are many good reasons to be proud of Thuringia—and soon there may be one more: if it succeeds in taking on a pioneering role in wind energy nationwide.

To promote the campaign, the organizers put up large posters in various locations throughout Thuringia. The slogan read: “Thuringia has always made history. We can do the same with wind energy.”

Making history with wind energy in Thuringia

These posters and many other initiatives were designed to inform the public about the positive effects of expanding wind energy. A total of around 40 of these large posters were used throughout Thuringia. In addition, busses displaying the campaign motif were put into service. The posters and the campaign highlighted the advantages of wind energy for Thuringia, including:

  • Secure energy prices: Stable wind power prices minimize energy price risks, which makes Thuringia a more secure business location and secures jobs.
  • Economic benefits for the region: Thuringian households will pay more than €20 billion for fossil fuel-based electricity, heating, and fuel bills by 2030. Until now, most of this money has flowed out of Thuringia, mainly abroad, and has been used to finance a number of things, but not the Thuringian economy, tradespeople, and local authorities.
  • Strengthening public finances: The added value generated by wind power expansion improves the financial situation of municipalities and counties, promotes the common good, and revitalizes our towns and villages.
