Numerous animal, plant and habitat species are threatened or have already disappeared. Despite this, there is a lack of binding legal regulations to effectively halt the decline in biodiversity. Protected areas are often inadequately equipped, minimum ecological standards in agriculture are not enforced and even existing biodiversity strategy targets are regularly missed.   <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The German Basic Law obliges the state to protect the natural foundations of life, also in responsibility for future generations. But it is precisely this duty to protect that is being neglected. The lawsuit is therefore aimed directly at the Federal Government and calls for an effective, enforceable biodiversity law.  <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-accordion-item\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-title-1132\" class=\"elementor-tab-title\" data-tab=\"2\" role=\"button\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-1132\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-accordion-icon elementor-accordion-icon-left\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-accordion-icon-closed\"><i class=\"fas fa-plus\"><\/i><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-accordion-icon-opened\"><i class=\"fas fa-minus\"><\/i><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a class=\"elementor-accordion-title\" tabindex=\"0\">Who is behind this court action?<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-1132\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"2\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-1132\"><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The lawsuit was filed on October 23, 2024 together with several individual plaintiffs, including actor Hannes Jaenicke and conservationist Christof Martin.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The constitutional complaint is being legally represented by the law firm Baumann Rechtsanw\u00e4lte, namely Dr. Franziska He\u00df and Lisa H\u00f6rtzsch, as well as Prof. Dr. Dr. Felix Ekardt from the Research Center for Sustainability and Climate Policy (all Leipzig).<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Protect the Planet is supporting the lawsuit professionally and financially \u2013 together with the Pelorus Jack Foundation and through a significant individual donation from Christof Martin.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-accordion-item\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-title-1133\" class=\"elementor-tab-title\" data-tab=\"3\" role=\"button\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-1133\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-accordion-icon elementor-accordion-icon-left\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-accordion-icon-closed\"><i class=\"fas fa-plus\"><\/i><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-accordion-icon-opened\"><i class=\"fas fa-minus\"><\/i><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a class=\"elementor-accordion-title\" tabindex=\"0\">Why is Protect the Planet supporting the lawsuit?<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-1133\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"3\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-1133\"><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Biodiversity is not a \u201cnice to have\u201d, but the basis for a functioning ecosystem, healthy soil, clean water and a stable climate.
