FUTURE TALKS

Setting the right course for the future

Outstanding personalities from industry, government, education and culture take part in our Future Talks and Roundtable Discussions. With their influence, conviction, personal commitment and resources they can and want to move mountains. People who attend these events are invited to get to know, support and inspire one another to take positive action. For sustainable change must take place at all levels of society.

Being a Leader

At our Future Talks, inspiring people present projects and discuss sustainability issues. These encounters and dialogues with influential leaders in a safe space are designed to be the framework and impetus for developing new ideas, campaigns, projects and products. We don’t just want to dream of a sustainable future; we want to make it a reality.

Become a supporter

Each of us is able to do a lot. It is often individuals who step up when it comes to change; when it is time to show civil courage and break new ground. But even the bravest trailblazers need support for their efforts in order to bring about faster and more effective change. They need people and organizations to stand behind them and support them with their experience, influence and financial resources. These Future Talks provide an ongoing platform for this in a relaxed atmosphere.

Opening event

The 1st Future Talk run by Protect the Planet took place on 11 December 2017 at the Bayerischer Hof hotel in Munich. People who wanted to change things met up with like-minded people: entrepreneurs, scientists, publishers, authors, film makers, donors and networkers – all committed to the common goal of protecting our planet.

The inspiring keynote addresses of Prof Joachim Schellnhuber, Dr Jane Goodall and Dorothea Sick-Thies, the initiator of these Protect-the-Planet Future Talks, were the highlights of the first Future Talk. Roundtable discussions were also initiated by those who participated in the inaugural event. The first of these on the subject of: “How can companies provide practical support for NGOs?” took place back in the summer of 2018.

2nd Future Talk in Switzerland

Following the successful kick-off event in Munich, the second Future Talk was held on 31 January 2019 in Switzerland. Protect the Planet brought invited guests together at the Riehen Memorial House, a former railway signaling station, which is now a place commemorating the “Memory of Jewish Refugees during the Second World War”.

The key theme of the event – “The Challenge of Climate Change” – was addressed by visionaries and experts in the field, like climate researcher Prof Thomas Stocker, Heffa Schücking from urgewald, Bruno Oberle (Director of the Federal Office for the Environment), Hannah Helmke from right. based on science and Christopher Wassermann (Zermatt Summit) and host Dorothea Sick-Thies. They provided inspiration and new impetus and came together to discuss ideas for meeting the challenge together and setting a sustainable, future-proof course.
